Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini outed as water-resistant

Samsung New Zealand accidentally reveals the water-resistant design of the Galaxy S5 ahead of the phone’s official launch

Our eagle-eyed Dutch cousins spotted a slip-up on Samsung’s New Zealand website, which not only confirms the existence of the Galaxy S5 Mini, but also proves it has the same water-resistant design as the original Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini revealed online as water resistant smartphone

The unfortunate reveal comes courtesy of some warranty information, which clearly states that Samsung won’t cover you if you submerge the Galaxy S5 Mini under water for longer than 30 minutes, or at depths over a metre. That’s the same punishment that the Galaxy S5 can tolerate, as well as fellow water-loving phones such as the Sony Xperia Z2.

As a side note, you also won’t be covered if your precious Galaxy S5 Mini is eaten alive by insect infestations or killer rodents. Bad news for London dwellers.

A ton of Galaxy S5 Mini details have already been hinted at, billing it as a 4.5-inch mobile (not that mini, as per usual) packing a 720p screen and slashed specs compared to the full-sized Galaxy S5. We’re not sure when Samsung will officially announce the Mini, but expect it in the coming month.
