Samsung Galaxy S7 In A Nutshell: Everything you need to know

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to launch in early 2016 and come packing some premium specs and features including Samsung’s curved-edge display with force touch, a best-in-class camera and more. Here’s all you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Samsung Galaxy S7: Design

With the Galaxy S6, Samsung finally pretty much nailed its flagship phone design. Gone was the plasticky cheapness of the Galaxy S5 and instead we had an attractive, curvy blend of glass and metal – although that glassy rear did scuff up pretty bad.

The Galaxy S7 should continue Samsung’s new focus on design, with a similar frame to the Galaxy S6. Rumours suggest that the curved screen of the Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ will now become the default display, although other internet whisperings point to two new S7 handsets, so we expect there to be a standard S7 and an S7 Edge.

Rumours point to a new water-resistant design as well as microSD memory card support – two of our biggest wants from the Galaxy S6. And you should also get the new Type-C USB slot for charging.

Samsung Galaxy S7: Expected specs

Original rumours pointed to a Snapdragon 820 processor powering the Galaxy S7 – which is supposed to be amazing for gaming, but thus far has only appeared on a single Chinese phone. However, the latest web whispers point to a new Exynos 8890 processor; a chipset of Samsung’s own making. Considering the Galaxy S6’s excellent Exynos 7420 processor made it one of the most powerful handsets of 2015, that’s certainly no bad thing.

You can also expect a minimum of 32GB of storage, with 64/128GB models also available.

As for the Galaxy S7’s screen, this will almost certainly be a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display boasting Quad HD resolution for super-sharp imagery. Rumours suggest that Force Touch will be supported, so the Galaxy S7 can tell how hard you’re pressing on the screen – just like Apple’s 3D Touch feature.

Samsung has always made a real effort with its flagship cameras and the Galaxy S7 could potentially come with a 20-megapixel camera of Samsung’s own creation or the same 23-megapixel camera found on the Sony Xperia Z5, depending on which rumours you believe.

That said, fresh AnTuTu leaks point to a reduced 12-megapixel camera instead. Don’t worry if you think that means a reduction in photo quality, however; 12-megapixels is more than enough to produce poster-quality images, and the Nexus 6P‘s 12.3-megapixel snapper was one of the best of 2015.

You can also expect the Galaxy S7 to sport NFC, a fingerprint sensor and a non-removable battery.

Samsung Galaxy S7: UK launch date

The Galaxy S7 is almost certainly going to be launched by Samsung at MWC 2016, on Sunday Febraury 21. Meanwhile, rumours point to a March 11th release date here in the UK.
