Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus announced

Samsung tablets just keep getting smaller, with Sammy announcing today the latest addition to its line of Galaxy Tabs, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

According to Samsung, the new tablet, which will come with a suspiciously Kindle Fire-esque 7-inch display, will arrive in the UK before the year is out. Which would have been handy to know yesterday, when we wrote our massive Amazon Fire tablet feature comparing it against the Galaxy Tab 8.9.

“The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus packs power and productivity into a lightweight design.” Says Samsung’s UK Mobile manging director Simon Stanford. “The latest addition to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab range demonstrates our ongoing dedication to designing a variety of premium tablets and continued innovation to suit different needs and lifestyles.” In this case, the needs and lifestyles of those who might otherwise consider snapping up Amazon’s tablet, presumably.

Now doubtless this 7-inch Samsung tablet is something that’s been in the planning stages at Samsung for months, but its sudden announcement just two after that of the Kindle Fire – also a 7-inch tablet, also Android, and with an absurdly low asking price – doesn’t sound like a coincidence to us. Is Samsung rushing its own seven-incher to market to avoid competing with Amazon’s £125 Android tab? Thoughts in the comments.
