Alan Partridge isn’t happy. Last week Samsung launched the Corby but it won’t be known as the Corby in the UK — instead it will be known here as the Genio Touch. Perhaps the name change was to avoid any trouser press confusion. Samsung has also unveiled the Genio Qwerty (pictured), a BlackBerry-esque social networking phone which was announced in Milan earlier this week as the CorbyTXT.
As you’d expect the Genio Qwerty features a full Qwerty keypad across it’s front and is aimed at the Twittering classes who prefer a physical keyboard over a touchscreen. Similar to the Genio Touch, there are shortcuts to MySpace, Facebook and Twitter. There’s a 2-megapixel camera, 3.5mm audio jack and a microSD slot which can hold cards of up to 8GB in size. There’s no 3G or Wi-Fi, so net access isn’t going to be lightning fast.
The Genio Qwerty also features interchangeable back covers and will ship in a vibrant yellow initially, with more coloured back covers to be released. It arrives in the UK in October and will initially be available from Orange. Pricing and contract details have not yet been announced.
