Samsung are bringing a new Windows Phone device to the Europe in the form the Omnia M. Their first running the OS since the Omnia W in September last year, the M is slated to step in as the new mid-range device in Samsung’s WP lineup.
Offering up a varied assortment of improved hardware and software, the Samsung Omnia M comes running Windows Phone 7.5 ‘Mango’, sports a 4.0 Super AMOLED display with the same resolution as the Omnia W (480×320). The M also features a front facing VGA camera above the phone’s display for video calling and a 5-megapixel snapper on the back complete with LED flash and 720p HD video recording capabilities.
The most notable limitations of the Omnia M are its internal storage capacity, which is limited to 4GB when both the Omnia 7 and W offer users a choice of 8GB or 16GB. Add to that the slower HSDPA data speeds and you can understand why this device only manages to garner mid-range status.
In terms of differentiation, Samsung ply a different tact to Nokia, with a greater focus on sharing apps, with the likes of Family Story, Samsung’s cloud-based family network app allowing users to share content between Samsung connected devices, AllShare; the wireless streaming app which allows users to push media to DLNA connected devices like TVs and ChatON, the Samsung smartphone to smartphone mobile messaging app.
We’ll no doubt take a look at the Samsung Omnia M when it lands on UK shores and can only hope it’s the first step to prettier looking, more exciting Windows Phone devices from the Korean mobile giant.
