Galaxy S3 sales help Samsung overtake Apple

Samsung Galaxy S3 has seen great success for Samsung. In fact, things are going so well, the new flagship looks set to help Samsung overtake Apple in smartphone before the end of Q2 this year.

iPhone 4S and Galaxy S3

A poll conducted by Reuters suggest that by the end of Q2 sales of Samsung smartphones will have outsold the iPhone by nearly 20 million sales. Apple is on track to shift 30.5 million iPhones in this quarter alone, whilst Samsung is on track to sell 50 million smartphones.

A large part of Samsung’s success is down to impressive sales of the Samsung Galaxy S3, where aggressive global marketing strategies and heavy press coverage have helped propel the new Android flagship to the top of the pile/

“Samsung is expected to be the smartphone hero in the second quarter. We are also expecting to see the biggest smartphone volumes ever shipped from one single vendor in one quarter, driven by strong demand of the Galaxy portfolio, particularly the Galaxy S II and S III,” said IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo.

Samsung’s edge also comes from a broader handset portfolio in comparison to that of Apple, allowing it to reach a wider range of consumers. Samsung was also the first company to surpass Nokia in selling feature phones to the world after 14 years in the top spot within that market, and success here is continued to grow as well.

The other most notable piece of information from analysts was the growing presence of leading Chinese manufacturers ZTE and Huawei who are now trying to expand their reach and brand identity into both the low and high end smartphone markets.
