Samsung Reclaim: Green is the new black

Talking about corn and its derivative products would normally send us to sleep until we saw the Samsung Reclaim — a brand new eco-friendly phone available in the US. Aside from the novelty of being partly made from a sustainable manufacturing source, the Samsung Reclaim has a veritable corn-ucopia of features — sorry, we couldn’t resist.

The Reclaim boasts 3G and easy access to services such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter (when it isn’t being attacked) and YouTube. There’s a slide out Qwerty keyboard which makes it easy to reply to emails, a 2-megapixel camera and the on-board memory can be expanded up to a whopping 32GB.

Other green phones include the Sony Ericsson Greenheart C905 and Naite, and Nokia’s 3110 Evolve. While we welcome the introduction of greener phones we hope they’re not just gimmicks. Developing greener technology is fine but it has to be implemented across the board and not just in specific phones that very few people buy. Since people like changing their phones on a regular basis then it makes sense for phone companies to find ways of making handsets more eco-friendly, or they could just make fewer but better phones. There’s no word yet on whether the Reclaim is set for a European launch but we’ll let you know if there is.
