Samsung Wave 525 Preview

The Samsung Wave 525 is an entry-level smartphone that runs on Samsung’s Bada OS and comes with access to the Samsung Apps app store. You can customise the layout of the Wave 525, with up to 10 homescreens to which you can add a variety of app shortcuts and widgets.

Also known as the Samsung Scotia and S5250, the Wave 525 is a fairly compact smartphone (109.5 x 55 x 11.9 mm) with a 3.2-inch touchscreen. It doesn’t have 3G meaning that accessing the web and social networks like Facebook and Twitter could be slow and expensive going, but it does support Wi-Fi meaning you’ll be able to make use of open wireless hotspots.

The 3.2-megapixel camera features an array of settings (panoramic shot, continuous shot, sepia/black and white/negative mode) and has a 2 x digital zoom – but sadly no flash.

Other features of the Samsung Wave 525 include a music player which features a virtual equaliser. You can also use the built-in Music Recognition software to identify songs on the radio or TV by placing the Wave 525 next to a speaker, (similar to Shazam and TrackID).

There’s a 3.5mm audio jack which gives you the freedom to use your own headphones and an FM radio with RDS should you get bored of your playlists or fancy a change. The Samsung Wave 525’s memory can also be expanded with microSD cards (up to 16GB) so you’ve got plenty of potential space for playlists.
