Oh, hello Wave 578, we heard from you on Valentines Day, but you said you weren’t coming to visit us. But now you’ve had a bit of a restyle, been promised the latest Bada software (later) and Orange has decided to give you a go, and you’ll have some of that contactless payment action – with a phone that promises to be a fair step-up from the Samsung Tocco QuickTap.
The Samsung Wave 578 has a 3.15-megapixel rear-facing camera, with a camera for video-calls on the front. There’s 16GB of built-in memory, expandable by microSD card. There’s a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, and it’ll be the second Samsung-Orange tie-in to feature NFC payment. Orange expects that, by the end of 2011, over half of their new smartphones will be ‘optimised’ for NFC payment features.
Orange have posted a coming soon page for the phone, and it’s had some subtle design changes since it was first announced, with a squareish button replacing the circular one found below the screen previously. No specifics on a release date or pricing just yet, though it’s currently labelled as ‘free’ on certain pay-monthly tariffs. More when we get it.
