Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Neo is set to feature a whopping eight cores.
Samsung is set to debut a smaller, cheaper version of its Note 3 handset, known as the Note 3 Neo. Two version of the device will be available: Galaxy Note 3 Neo 3G and Note 3 Neo LTE+, both of which ditch the 5.7-inch screen on the current Note 3 for a 5.55-inch display.
The LTE+ model will be the most impressive of the pair, thanks to an eight-core Exynos CPU. This consists of two 1.7GHz cores for heavyweight tasks like gaming, and four 1.3GHz cores for more mundane stuff, like telling you when you’re being poked on Facebook. It even packs a healthy 2GB of RAM which, on paper, makes some laptops look a bit pants.
The reality is that, while the Galaxy Note 3 Neo LTE+ is bound to be very fast, there will be very few apps, if any that can take advantage of its mammoth multi-core brain.
The 3G version of the Galaxy Note 3 Neo will use a quad-core 1.6GHz processor.
The 5.55-inch AMOLED display used on both models pumps out a resolution of 1,280×720 pixels, with a reasonable 265 dot-per-inch pixel density. The larger Note 3, for reference, has a far more impressive 1080p resolution and 386ppi pixel density.
Elsewhere, the Galaxy Neo 3 16GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for expanding memory, an 8MP primary camera and a 2MP user-facing camera.
We’ve no word on pricing as yet but we expect more details will emerge when Samsung show its latest wares (including the Galaxy S5) at the phone and tablet fest that is Mobile World Congress
