Samsung’s new computer monitor can charge your phone wirelessly

If you keep your smartphone to hand on your desk when sitting at your computer, Samsung’s new SE370 computer monitor might be the perfect fit.

With the unveiling the Galaxy S6 (and S6 Edge) earlier this year, Samsung released its first flagship to support wireless charging out-the-box, no additional accessories required. The Galaxy S6 joined the ranks of other handsets that natively offered Qi wireless charging like the Nexus 6 and Lumia 930.

Now, Samsung’s new PC monitor completes the circle, letting you keep your phone juiced up, just by setting it down underneath you display. The SE370 features a wireless charging pad, built into the monitor’s base that uses the Qi wireless charging standard (the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge support both Qi and PMA standards).

For curious potential buyers, the SE370 will be available in a 23.6-inch or a 27-inch variant, packing a 1920×1080 resolution, a PLS (Plane-to-Line-Switching) panel with a 178 degree viewing angle, a 4ms response time and an integrated GPU to avoid screen-tearing and optimised viewing for gaming with support for AMD’s FreeSync technology.

Charge time will vary based on whether your smartphone is switched on or not and the capacity of the battery inside. While the most elegant experience can only be had with phones that feature in-built wireless charging, there are accessory makers out there who can offer third-party accessories to add the functionality to your smartphone.

Ikea made headlines recently with new home furniture products featuring integrated wireless charging pads and compatible cases alongside them for the most popular iPhones and Samsung Galaxys of the moment.

We don’t yet have a price for the SE370 monitor, but expect to get some hands-on time with it at IFA in Berlin later this year, unless it pops up before then.
