Scroll Extreme Tablet PC: sub £200 with Ice Cream Sandwich

You don’t have to spend hundreds of pounds to get an Android 4.0: Ice Cream Sandwich tablet – the Scroll Extreme PC is a slim, metal tablet and costs just £189.99.

The tablet was spotted by Engadget and is available to buy in the UK from ebuyer, where it’s currently available on pre-order.

Inside the Scroll Extreme Tablet PC, there’s an ARM Cortex A8 1.2GHZ Mali-400 dual-core processor, with 1GB RAM. The screen is 9.7-inches 1024×768 pixel screen with IPS (In-plane switching), very similar specifications to the Apple iPad 2. However unlike many tablets at this price, the touchscreen is capacitive rather than resistive, so you’ll be able to use multitouch gestures for browsing.

Similarities to the Apple iPad 2 don’t end there, the casing is aluminium and the chassis measures 242.9mm x 189 x 9.9mm, in contrast to the iPad 2’s 241.2 x 185.7 x 8.8mm.

So far so good, but now we come to our main problem. Although it’s an Android tablet, you can’t download apps from the Android Market: ‘Due to licence restrictions, Scroll Extreme cannot officially be used to access the Android Marketplace.’  Instead apps need to be downloaded from the SlideME Market Place, as well as other third-party app stores. Adobe Flash Player, BBC News, Facebook, MSN Talk, Twitter, YouTube, Aldiko Book Reader, WildTangent, 7digital are pre-installed

There are two cameras on-board, a primary 2-megapixel camera and 1.3-megapixel secondary camera. There’s also an HDMI port for connecting the Scroll Extreme Tablet PC to a television where it can playback movies you’ve shot or already stored there.

Along with 8GB internal memory, with a microSD card, which is expandable using a microSD card, which are relatively cheap to buy

Although we can’t argue with the price of the Scroll Extreme PC the build, screen and HDMI connectivity, but do you really want a tablet without access to the Android Market?
