Sharp has upped the ante on cameraphones by announcing that it is to introduce the “Industry’s thinnest CMOS Camera Module”, plus it will be packing enhanced optical image stabilisation. The new module, named RJ63YC100, contains a back-illuminated image sensor, captures photos in full 12.1-megapixel style and is supported by high-definition 1080p video.
The optical image stabiliser within the camera uses a lens-shift system to control the lens, which aids the user in avoiding blurring caused by camera shake. It also means that your photos in dimly lit locations come out much more crisply and moving objects within your viewfinder will also find there way onto your photo more easily.
The module is a slender 5.47mm in height. Sharp comments that it has produced the camera in response to growing demand for high quality photos and footage on portable mobile devices, as you would expect from AV equipment and computers. Given its slim figure, we hope to see this camera in the ever thinner smartphones that are due for release in 2012.
Shipments began on the 2nd December and we look forward to trying it out in the first device this little beauty ends up in. Full Spec below…
