The Sonos Controller Android app is coming in March. We got to have a go with the beta version at Mobile World Congress today and we’re happy to report that it’s looking to be as good as the iPhone edition, if not better.
Sonos’s wireless speakers are high end devices and aren’t cheap. The popular all-in-one Sonos S5, for example, will set you back £349 for one unit. You could buy an iPhone 4 for that.
A Sonos S5 is worth shelling out for however. It looks great, is easy to set up and (most importantly) boasts great sound quality, thanks to its five speaker set up. They’re perfect for streaming music from your desktop PC, laptop or iPhone to anywhere in the house, and you can connect as many as you like, allowing you to stream tunes through to anywhere in your house where there’s a mains socket.
Come March you’ll be able to do this from your Android phone too.
The app, demoed on a Motorola Atrix, allows you to change the volume levels of individual speakers from your phone. 
So if you’re in the bathroom and you’re about to head into the kitchen you can turn up the volume there before you head in. Useful if you want to make a grand entrance.
Everything works over Wi-Fi; you’ll need to connect at least one Sonos ZonePlayer (or Zone Bridge) to your home broadband router. Then, when you connect your Android phone to your home’s Wi-Fi, you can use it as a remote control with the app.
You can stream music from apps like Spotify and Last.fm for Android, and search for songs and radio stations using Google Voice Actions.
Sonos Controller for Android will work with phones running Android 2.1 or higher, with screen sizes of 320 x 480, 480 x 800 and 480 x 854.
The app itself will be free to download, and is due to arrive in the Android Market in March.
