The slim C902 comes with a 5-megapixel camera and a selection of imaging options, as well as a wealth of music and video playing features.
What we like
Boasting excellent build quality, the Sony Ericsson C902 is a slim, metallic phone, with a neat three-band metal edging. While it looks like a standard candybar phone from the front, the top section of the Sony Ericsson C902 slides up to reveal the camera.
Sliding open the phone activates the camera mode, which simultaneously turns on eight blue glowing touch-sensitive camera keys. These controls let you switch between video and still camera, access the photo gallery and switch on the LED photo light among other things. The dedicated camera keys make taking photos a lot less fiddly.
Other, now-standard, camera phone features such as autofocus, face-detection and video are present, as is the trademarked BestPic setting, and a neat macro mode setting. Once you’re done you can upload your pictures to the Internet using HSDPA and geo-tag your pics so that you can overlay them on a map using Flickr, for example.
What we don’t like
One annoying aspect of the camera is that if you close the lens cover, you lose all of the image settings – white balance and the like – that you’ve just spent ages tweaking. So if you’re planning on taking a series of pictures all in the same location which require you to adjust settings accordingly, then you’ll want to be mindful of this.
The screen is a mere 2-inches, meaning that you won’t really be able to appreciate the true power of the 5-megapixel camera until you transfer your pictures to a computer. It’s also annoying that Sony Ericsson opted for a LED photo light instead of a xenon flash, as pictures in low light don’t come out that well.
Conclusion
The C902 boasts excellent build quality and looks very stylish. If you’re looking for a great camera phone though then the lack of xenon flash and small screen doesn’t do it for us — instead we’d recommend the C905.
