Sony Ericsson Anzu X12 extensively previewed, damned as high-end smartphone

The folks over at Mobile Review have spent some face time with the Sony Ericsson Anzu X12, the Android-running X10 follow-up.

Running Android 2.2 (Froyo) straight from the box, it’s disappointing to learn that the X12 won’t see Gingerbread until late Summer 2011 – but hey, at least we’re moving on from Eclair, right Sony Ericsson?

Having run through the specs – 4.3in screen, 720p video recording, 800MHz processor, multitouch and an improved camera and interface – Mobile Review concludes that Sony Ericsson pitting this handset against either the HTC Desire HD or the Samsung Galaxy S is “a suicide committed by blowing yourself up with a stick of dynamite”. Ouch.

The main problem is how Sony Ericsson is pitching the handset; what could have been a decent mid-range handset is thrown in with the lions “to be eaten at the top end and take down the company with it.” Double ouch.

We’ll reserve our full judgement until we get our own hands on a device, but safe to say it’s not looking too rosy for Sony E.
