Sony Ericsson Xperia Play comes to O2 in black and white: Free on £37 a month, £430 on pay-as-you-go

We were just having a nose around the Coming Soon section of O2’s site as we’re wont to and noticed that a certain PlayStation Certified device that had previously been sitting there for a while was curiously absent.

Fast forwards to the Shop section of the O2 site and there’s the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, sitting prettily in both black and white on pay monthly and pay-as-you-go.

You can get black and white Xperia Plays free on a 24 month contract for £37 a month which’ll net you 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data. Those after a free Xperia Play on an 18 month deal can get one on a £47 a month deal that will get you the same amount of minutes, messages and data.

The deeper pocketed of you out there will need to stump up £430 for the Xperia Play on pay-as-you-go.

As a bonus, O2 is also bundling thee ‘bonus games’ for free. We understand that this deal gives you the pick of three Gameloft titles to download on your Xperia Play for nowt. We’re chasing up for a list of titles now.

Update: to get the free Gameloft games, you’ll need to head over here once you’ve got your Xperia Play and fill in the form. You’ll need to have the phone’s IMEI number to hand, which you can access by simply typing * # 0 6 # into the dialler.

Along with this, O2 is also bunging in a free DK300 Mutlimedia Dock (above) which turns your Xperia Play into an alarm clock/photo frame.

We were a little underwhelmed with the Xperia Play when we reviewed it, mainly because we were expecting a little more in terms of PS1 games.

However news that the Play will be the first Android phone to get Minecraft has rekindled out interest somewhat. We’re also living in hope for a Final Fantasy VII port. Although, by the rate at which FF remakes are appearing on the iPhone, it’ll probs get the iOS treatment before the Xperia Play gets a look in…
