Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness X5: Transparent virtues

There’s a lot of X about these days. There’s the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, the X10, the Nokia X6 and now the Xperia Pureness (aka X5). It’s all rather confusing but the Xperia Pureness boasts an extravagant design which hopefully means it’s unlikely to be mistaken for another X-branded product.

The Pureness is the first phone to feature a transparent display which sounds fantastic but we can’t see how this phone is going to stand up in the cold light of day – literally. We’re not sure about its features either. Sony Ericsson has just released the Pureness’ specs on its website and there’s not much to shout about.

As its name suggests, the Pureness focuses on the basics, with calling and texting at its core. Features include Bluetooth, HSDPA (3.5G), Microsoft Exchange support, patented Sony Ericsson audio enhancements such as MegaBass and TrackID — and that’s about it.

To add a little extra though Sony Ericsson has included a ‘concierge service’ which puts you in touch with a dedicated support team who will book flights, hotel rooms, appointments at health spas etc, at your behest – a lot like the Concierge service of the Vertu Signature.

Yep, the Xperia Pureness is a VIP phone. Speaking of which, while no price or release date has been confirmed for the Xperia Pureness yet, GSM Arena say that it will retail unlocked for €600 (roughly £540). Sony Ericsson has previously stated that the Xperia Pureness will launch this month.
