Sony Mobile Communications, it’s official.

It’s official, Sony has just announced that it has finalised its acquisition of Ericsson and as of now, the business is called Sony Mobile Communications. This has been expected for a while, but the fact it’s now signed, sealed and delivered is a pretty landmark event in the world of mobile.

The press-release by Sony spotted at Xperia Blog outlines this explicitly and goes so far as to state that Sony is intent on convergence between their portfolio of network enabled products such as smart phones, tablets, TVs, and PCs. “Sony Mobile” will cover the new venture’s mobile products however the “Sony Ericsson” brand will still be used for devices released in 2010-2011.

With the Xperia S expected at in March as the first Sony Mobile device, we will be getting a better idea as to exactly how Sony plans on integrating its connected device services shortly. We know they will be adopting Video and Music Unlimited, however it will be interesting to see what else is in the pipeline and what mid-range handsets Sony will be offering. With any luck we’ll find out more at MWC.
