We’re all Sony’d out. After a review of the Sony Xperia S, hands-on with the Sony Xperia P and a whole truck-load of Sony MWC related news posts, we thought we’d covered everything – but no. The Sony Xperia U, the baby of the bunch announced on Sunday and headed to Three has made its way into our hands and onto your screens.
With us getting two hands-ons, one in London and one in Barcelona, this 1GHz dual-core phone has been well received twice over. That’s to say – we’re quite fancying Sony’s new ‘low-range’ smartphone. Handsome like its bigger brothers, the Sony Xperia S and P, the Xperia U is the fun sibling, colourful, bright and customisable, in stark contrast to, say, the Samsung Galaxy Ace we’ve just previewed which is somewhat lacking in personality.
Not content with providing interchangeable bottom ends, the lighting strip below the screen also changes colour as demonstrated in the video below. What colour will it change to? This is dictated by the predominant colour on screen in either your picture viewer or music player.
The 3.5-inch screen isn’t huge, but is the same size as the iPhone 4S, so shouldn’t be too much of a push for users to get comfortable with. The handset feels solid and while we were worried about the bottom end being flimsy, it isn’t, at least not on the demo units we tried.
The UI also runs smoothly suggesting the 1GHz processor is up to the job at hand, but don’t take our word for it, check out the video below and get more familiar with the flamboyant sibling in the NXT line, the Sony Xperia U.
