Sony’s Xperia XA Ultra is the first new Sony phablet of 2016, a 6-inch handset boasting some serious camera tech, including a smart and super-powered 16-megapixel selfie snapper that’s ideal for low light shots. Here’s the full Sony Xperia XA Ultra specs and a run-down of its best features, along with how it compares to the rest of the Xperia X series.

The Xperia XA Ultra sports the same edge-to-edge screen design of Sony’s original Xperia XA, but this time in a much bigger 6-inch form. However, while the XA Ultra is a bit of a beast, Sony says that it feels more like a 5.5-inch phone thanks to those minimal bezels. Impressively, the phone is just 79mm wide. Water resistance has once again been cut in order to trim the price of the handset, while the Ultra has no fingerprint sensor, just like the XA before it.

That Full HD 6-inch screen sports an HD resolution, and although there’s no support for Sony’s X-Reality display tech, which sharpens up your images on the fly, you do get that Super Vivid mode to boost the display’s colours. As for storage, the Xperia XA Ultra packs in just 16GB of memory. Don’t fret if you have a massive media collection however, as microSD memory cards are supported.
That’s especially good news if you want to take loads of snaps using the Xperia XA Ultra’s impressive pair of cameras. We already love the Xperia X’s seriously strong selfie camera, which can snap some awesome shots in low light situations. However, the Xperia XA Ultra is a big step beyond even that, packing a 16-megapixel shooter with a single LED flash and built-in Optical Image Stabilisation.

Sony’s new Night Portrait Flash mode uses that flash to capture your face and the background in equal measure, so finally your night shots and club snaps won’t feature your grainy mug against a backdrop of pure black.
You also get a 21.5MP 1 / 2.4 Exmor RS rear camera with hybrid autofocus and object tracking, a feature found in the Xperia X. This helps to keep your subject sharp even when they’re moving fast, by predicting their position as the lens fires.
A Mediatek Helio V10 processor runs the show on the Xperia XA Ultra, just as it did on the Xperia XA. Backed by 3GB of RAM, the Xperia XA Ultra should also enjoy solid performance. And Sony reckons you’ll get up to two days of battery life from a single charge, which we reckon means you should manage a day and a half with standard everyday use. Fast Charge is of course supported, so just ten minutes of charge will give you over five hours of life.
The Sony Xperia XA Ultra will be available worldwide when it’s released summer 2016, so expect to see it hit the UK in a couple of months. UK pricing is yet to be revealed.
