The Sony Xperia Z1: how much it costs, and where to get it

Tempted by the Xperia Z1, Sony’s latest flagship Android device? You’ll be able to buy it in the UK soon enough. Several networks – as well as online retailers – have already announced that they’ll be carrying the handset. Better yet, you’ll be able to get your hands on one before the end of the month.

EE is the first carrier that will be stocking the Xperia Z1. The UK’s first LTE network took to Twitter and confirmed that the phone would be made available for £29.99 on a £41 per month contract. The company will be throwing in Sony’s SmartWatch 2 as well for a limited time if you pre-order ahead of the retail date.

Phones4u will also be carrying Sony’s latest device. Just like EE, the company will throw in a free SmartWatch 2 with any pre-orders, but anyone taking up an LTE tariff will also receive “a free wireless speaker worth £120.” Vodafone has expressed interest in the Z1 as well, but didn’t provide further details.

The Carphone Warehouse is offering an interesting deal of its own as well. According to Android Central, the company will throw in a free QX10 wireless lens camera if you pay £69 upfront for the Xperia Z1 and sign a £33 a month two-year contract. That’s a great deal for anyone serious about mobile photography.

The phone is available for pre-order on O2 as well. The network will be offering the Z1 on its 3G and 4G Refresh tariffs, starting from £42 a month for a free handset and 1GB of data. It’s matching EE and the Carphone Warehouse’s bonus offers too, with the company giving a free QX10 lens to anyone ordering the Z1.

Other networks have still yet to confirm availability for the Xperia Z1, but we do know that Three could carry the handset thanks to a leaked internal memo from Engadget. The release date is apparently set for September 24th, tying in nicely with an official launch before the month is out.

What if you don’t want to sign yourself over to a two-year contract? Clove has you covered. The online smartphone retailer has put up its pre-order page for the Xperia Z1, offering the unlocked phone for £564. That seems to fall in line with current flagship pricing for unlocked handsets, but you won’t get any of the freebies that the networks are offering. Still, you might get it quicker: Clove’s pre-order page currently lists a September 16th release date.

Unlocked Mobiles will also be carrying the handset. The retailer will be selling the unlocked Xperia Z1 for £565, matching Clove’s price. And just like other companies, a free SmartWatch 2 will be thrown in for a limited time.
