As we approach the holiday season, it is a time to eat, drink and be merry – but it is also a busy time for our Ambulance services and so they’ve gone all Santa Claus on us and made their iPhone app free to download, as of 24th November. First launched last year, the app has already proved popular with over 40,000 downloads and has topped the charts as the UK’s best selling Health and Fitness app.
As the days get shorter and the clime colder, the app provides vital information on how to combat the effects of the cold. Including tips on how to deal with frostbite and hypothermia. It also contains information on how to deal with minor injuries, meaning you can deal with them in the home and let the Ambulance service deal with larger emergencies.
The app provides useful step-by-step information on how to react when faced with an emergency situation, such as choking or a heart attack – the charity has already saved one life as a mother used the app to provide first aid to her choking baby. St John’s Ambulance is urging iPhone users to download the app as it can deliver life-saving information to the user as they wait for an ambulance to arrive – given how busy the services are during the winter months, this can make waiting times longer.
