Sticky secret: Android Gingerbread hidden in Android Honeycomb tablets

While many wait for Google to unveil its next version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, which promises to join together the divergent tablet and smartphone versions, Honeycomb (3.0) and Gingerbread (2.3), someone’s found a way to switch ‘down’ to Gingerbread on tablets running Honeycomb.

Graffix0214 shows us via Youtube that all you need to do is adjust the LCD density to lower than 170. In the video below, he shows the Dell Streak 7 retweaked to run both versions of Android.

The LCD adjustment makes the tablet think it’s a smaller screen, and after a restart, you should have yourself a rather powerful Gingerbread tablet.

You need to have rooted your tablet for this to work, so make sure you know what you’re doing.
You’ll need the LCDDensity for Root app (it’s in Google’s Android market!) to adjust those LCD settings, and you should apparently be able to turn it back to a Honeycomb tablet whenever you’d like.
