Stream gigs and DJ sets for free with Awdio’s new app

Schweppes is known mainly for its tonic water brand, but now it’s making a bid for musical stardom. Well, it’s sponsoring an innovative iPhone app that focuses on live music, anyway.

The app has been launched by Awdio, a website that offers streams of live concerts from around the world. The app brings that to iPhone, offering gigs from 180 venues in 25 countries, with more than 10,000 events a month.

Schweppes’ involvement means the app is free. Well, it’s free as long as you just want to listen to gigs as they happen. If you want to time-shift gigs or access the ‘Best Of’ archive, you’ll have to pay a small monthly fee of £1.19, via in-app payment.

We’re very impressed with Awdio: tapping on an event fires up the stream instantly. It’s amazing being able to dip in and out of club sets from Paris, Istanbul or Ibiza, and bands playing in Montreal, London and Hong Kong (for example).

There are social features too: you can plug whatever you’re listening to on Twitter or Facebook. Particularly if you’re into dance music, Awdio’s app is well worth a listen.
