Student builds iPad to win girlfriend’s heart

Love comes in many forms and for one lucky lady in Changchun, capital of Northeast China’s Jilin, it has arrived in the form of a handmade iPad with rhinestones delicately added around the edges. The love struck student, Wei Xinlong, wanted to buy his girlfriend, Sun Shasha, the perfect gift, but on his student budget couldn’t afford the iPad he knew she’d love.

The ingenious student took to the internet to seek out how to build her his very own version of the iPad, first purchasing a touch-screen display and a battery. Wei laboured for 10 long days hand-sculpting the holes and tracking down information online on how to build the tablet.

He borrowed parts from an old laptop to paste together the ingredients he needed to finish his masterpiece, including a motherboard, the display, memory and it is also Windows 7 enabled. Speaking to China Daily News, Wei commented; “One can read, download, watch movies, play games by just touching the screen,”

The final result, a homemade iPad for 800 Yuan, which is around $125, and a very happy girlfriend; “This is the best gift I’ve ever had, and I will keep it forever.”
