Take a Beatles tour of Liverpool with your iPhone

Swing a cat in Liverpool, and you’ll hit 17 people who claim they saw the Beatles at the Cavern Club. It must have had Tardis-like properties to fit everyone in who says they were there when the Fab Four were beginning their rise to superstardom.

A new iPhone app aims to help Beatles fans find their way round the band’s old haunts, including the Cavern and more than 60 other tourist hotspots in Liverpool. It’s been compiled by David Roberts and Colin Unwin, who know their musical onions, being respectively the former editor of the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles, and a Beatles tour expert.

The app pulls in Google Maps to guide users to Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, the Cavern and other points of interest for Beatles fans. However, it also includes stories and photos to tell you more about each location.

Money can’t buy you love, but £1.79 will buy you the app. Meanwhile, Fab Four fans in London should also check out augmented reality app Layar, which offers an AR Beatles Tour for similar hotspots in London, including the chance to watch a cartoon version of the band stroll across the Abbey Road zebra crossing.
