The Meffy Awards or ‘Meffys’ might not be the most talked about awards ceremony in the calendar, with the likes of the Oscars and the Grammys stealing the limelight most of the time (typical) but in some circles they are still very much important.
Set up by the Mobile Entertainment Forum, the Meffys offer all manner of mobile-centric accolades, which include awards for devices, developers, apps, brands, technology and finance. Previous Meffy winners include some big names such as Coca Cola, RIM, Shazam, EA and of course Apple, with the iPad 2 for Best Connected Device in 2011.
As such the time is upon us again when submissions can start rolling in for 2012 and the MEF have even introduced a handful of new categories for companies to enter into too. The different awards are arranged in two key groups; the general awards, where companies are commended for achieving targets in a select field and the innovation awards where products or services can qualify for awards even if they aren’t in a finished or released state (e.g. beta apps). Here’s a list of the 2012 categories including some new additions:

- Social & Entertainment App Award (NEW)
- Life Tools App Award (NEW)
- Brand on Mobile Award
- Publisher on Mobile Award (NEW)
- Content Service Award
- m-Commerce Service Award
- Consumer Trust Award (NEW)
- Discovery & Engagement Award (NEW)
- Social Responsibility & Development Award (NEW)
Innovation Categories
- Innovation Award for App
- Innovation Award for Technology
- Innovation Award for a Growth Market Initiative
- Innovation Award for Monetisation
The awards are set to take place in September later this year, so if you think you have something influential enough in the mobile space under your belt, why not try submitting it, you’ve got until July 9th and you could be presenting it at city hall in London in front of some big names.
