The Economist launches its official iPhone and iPad apps

News and business mag The Economist has hit the App Store, with separate iPhone and iPad applications.

Both offer the full print version of the magazine every Thursday evening, with issues available to buy individually at £3.49 a pop. However, existing print and online subscribers automatically get the iEditions for free.

We’ve been testing the iPad version this morning, and it works very well. There are few Wired-esque interactive bells and whistlers – aside from audio versions of the articles read by ‘professional newscasters’ – but you could argue that Economist readers aren’t fussed by multimedia fripperies.

Anyway, we’re impressed.
