Samsung just launched its new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ handsets here in London, but although the Note 5 and S6 Edge+ look like solid handsets, there were three snippets of news from Samsung Unpacked that left us feeling cold.
Still no expandable storage
Samsung appears to have gone fully down the Apple road of ‘bollocks to expandable storage’, which is nothing short of irritating. Seriously, 32GB of space simply isn’t enough these days, considering the size of HD video files and high-res photos. My Jessica Alba Fake Nudes collection alone is about ten gigs, for flip’s sake.
Which means you’ll once again have to decide which half-dozen movies to take on holiday with you, and stop yourself from shooting 4k home movies.
No real reason to upgrade
The S6 Edge+ is a solid all-round handset, but anyone owning a recent Samsung phone has no reason to upgrade at all, unless they’re really desperate for an extra half-inch, so to speak. Likewise, if you own last year’s Note 4, you’ve got no real incentive to splash out for the Note 5 – especially as you’re losing that expandable storage.

No UK release for the Note 5?
Apparently the Note 5 isn’t even coming out in the UK this year, and possibly won’t next year either. Which means that if you’re desperate to get the latest Note – possibly unlikely, given the above – you’ll need to import it from overseas. Cheers, Samsung.
