Translation fail: Ovi Maps will not be available on Android

This morning Electric Pig spotted an article in Die Presse suggesting that Greig Williams, GM of Nokia’s operations in the Alp regions, had said that Ovi Maps would be available on Android in the future. Nokia offering Ovi Maps on non-Nokia platforms… huh? So we got in touch with our Nokia contacts in the UK to see what was going on. At first Nokia told us that it doesn’t comment on rumours or speculation but then it sent through an official statement (below) denying the whole thing and pointing out the translation fail.

Nokia: “Earlier this week, an Austrian journalist asked Greig Williams, GM of Nokia’s operations in the Alp regions, if Ovi Maps would be available on Android in the future. Greig’s response (in English) ‘We don’t comment on future plans’ was inexplicably translated into German as: ‘That will be the next step’. Of course, once we pointed out the error, the journalist corrected their article.”
