The BBC+ app for Android, iPhone and iPad has just launched, offering UK residents a new way to consume and enjoy the Beeb’s content. So what is BBC+, how do you get it and how does it work?
What is the BBC+ app?
BBC+ is a brand new service from the Beeb, bringing together content from various BBC sources into one handy app.
When you’ve downloaded the BBC+ app, you’ll need to sign in with your BBC ID. This is the same ID that you use to sign into BBC’s other apps, such as iPlayer, iPlayer Radio and so on. The BBC+ app will learn your interests and which content you want to see on a daily basis, and will then filter the stuff that you’re most likely to enjoy from the likes of BBC News, BBC Sport, BBC weather and the rest. In this way, you don’t have to piddle around in several different BBC apps to find all the bits you need.
BBC+ will also stream video and audio content from iPlayer and iPlayer Radio, so you can watch or listen to clips from your favourite shows.
Can I get the BBC+ app on my phone or tablet?
The BBC+ app can be downloaded from today, from Apple’s App Store for your iOS device; BBC+ is compatible with any recent iPhone or iPad. You can also download the BBC+ app from the Google Play store if you have an Android phone or tablet.
Do I need to pay the License Fee to use the BBC+ app?
No. Currently you only need to pay the License Fee if you watch live BBC programming, so you can use the BBC+ app without paying a penny. It’s only streaming live channels through the likes of iPlayer that requires fee payment.
