Which devices will get iOS 6?

Apple today officially confirmed the latest version of its operating system: iOS 6 described as ‘The World’s Most Advanced Operating System’ a significant update for its smartphones and tablets.

Speaking at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC), which has just taken place in San Francisco, Scott Forstall confirmed details of the latest version of Apple’s operating system – iOS 6 –  which will be launching later this year. Check out some of the top iOS 6 features including Siri and Maps.

Apple also revealed which devices will be getting the software update, interestingly as predicted, iOS 6 will be coming to the Apple iPhone 3GS (with some limited functions) and all later smartphones, but not the Apple iPad. Check out the list after the break.

Apple iPhone 4S: Yes
Apple iPhone 4: Yes, but no Siri and no flyover and turn-by-turn navigation in Maps.
Apple iPhone 3GS: Yes, but no Siri, no shared Photostream, no Facetime over cellular, no VIP,  no offline Reading List and no flyover and turn-by-turn navigation in Maps.
Apple iPhone 3G: No

Apple new iPad: Yes
Apple iPad 2: Yes, no Siri
Apple iPad: No

Apple iPod Touch 4th gen: Yes, no Siri, no shared Photostream, no Facetime over celluar, no VIP, no offline Reading List
Apple iPod Touch 3rd gen: No

Apple TV: Not mentioned

Apple has confirmed the iOS 6 beta is available from developer.apple.com now so developers can start to design apps for it in time for the consumer update to land this autumn.
