The Wileyfox Storm is the new affordable £199 flagship to watch

New British mobile brand Wileyfox just launched in London with two debut phones, the great-value £129 Swift and the mighty 5.5-inch Storm.

With some serious Moto X Play-rivalling specs and a competitive £199 price-point, plus a highly customisable OS, the Wileyfox Storm looks like a seriously strong first flagship.

Wileyfox is a company that grounds itself on being a small, flexible, lithe entity in a market filled with lumbering behemoths like Apple and Samsung and both of its new smartphones are designed to reflect this. At launch it’s online-only presence helps keep its devices affordable and it aims to sell across EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Asia) through big partners like Amazon, eBay and in the UK, Clove.

The Storm is the beefier of the company’s two launch devices, which primarily sets itself apart from its smaller sibling in the hardware department. You can expect a 64-bit, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch Full HD display and 32GB of internal storage expandable via microSD up to 128GB on top. It doesn’t joke around in the imaging department either, with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, complete with its own LED flash and a dual-LED flash-laden rear Sony sensor, packing out an impressive 20-megapixel resolution.

Cyanogan has been brought in to offer up the latest 12.1 build of its official OS, running atop Android 5.1 Lollipop, which boasts all the benefits of Google’s mobile operating system with the added customisability Cyanogen is known for.

The Wileyfox Storm will hit pre-order (£199) soon after the Swift in early September and devices will start arriving in hands by October.
