Xbox Phone out before PSP Phone?

Will there ever be a PSP Phone? The closest thing we’ve seen to one so far is the Sony Ericsson Aino – a multimedia phone which syncs with your PS3 console. Close, but no cigar. If there is indeed a PSP Phone in the works it looks as though Microsoft may be in the process of stealing a march on its next-gen console rival.

On the weekend the Telegraph reported that Microsoft has been putting out feelers for programmers to head up a project which will bring Xbox Live enabled games to Windows Mobile devices. So we could see Xbox Live content being made available for download from Windows Marketplace or even an Xbox-branded phone.

Avatars and other social elements from Xbox Live are expected to be at the forefront of the project. It’s expected that you’ll be able to sync mobile contacts with Xbox Live gamer IDs, in the same way that you can with Live Anywhere, which brings friends and contact lists on Xbox and PC platforms under one umbrella.

Live Anywhere also features the Microsoft Points currency system which could be integrated with Windows Marketplace for Windows Mobile. So if we don’t end up getting a high-end Xbox phone, we could get a system whereby you earn Microsoft Points by downloading apps from Marketplace. We shall have to wait and see.
