ZTE app store coming in 2012/2013

We’ve seen ZTE release a lot of smartphones at MWC, with Windows and a clutch of Android mobile phones, but it appears that the Chinese phone giant is considering entering the app market.

Speaking to Recombu at Mobile World Congress, Wu Sa Director of Mobile Device Operations in the UK confirmed the company is currently working on an app store, which is due to be launched in Q4 2012 or Q1 2013.

Wu Sa couldn’t confirm a name or even whether the app store would be available for ZTE’s Android or Windows Phone handsets, although we’d expect it to be the former.

Samsung of course already has its own Samsung App Store for Bada and Android handsets and Sony Ericsson is working on a Play Now app store in China with The9.

It’s been a busy time for ZTE at Mobile World Congress, with eight handset launches. We’ve seen the quad-core touting ZTE Era with a 4.3-inch screen; the ZTE PF112 with a 4.5-inch screen and dual-core processor and the Windows Phone ZTE Orbit.

Details are scant at the moment, but we’ll bring you more information about the ZTE app store when we get it.
