ZTE Grand Memo announced: 5.7-inch HD ‘phablet’ with 1.7GHz quad-core processor

Should the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes across as a little too dear and the Huawei Ascend Mate not your preferred flavour of Chinese-made ‘phablet’, ZTE have just unveiled their new contender for the oversized smartphone throne: the ZTE Grand Memo.

The Gran Memo aims to strengthen ZTE’s flagship line, alongside the Grand S which took to the stage back in January and brings to the tablet Android Jelly Bean, a 5.7-inch HD screen and a quad-core processor, whilst maintaining ZTE’s position as the affordable alternative in the market.

What specifications does the ZTE Grand Memo feature?

OS Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with ZTE MiFavour UI overlay
Screen 5.7-inch 720p HD (720×1280) LCD panel
Processor 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor
RAM 2GB
Storage 16GB (expandible via microSD up to 32GB)
Camera 13-megapixel rear facing, 1-megapixel front facing
Connectivity Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band WiFi, 3G, 4G (LTE)
Battery 3200mAh

Where does it sit in ZTE’s lineup?

Just as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 occupies the flagship podium with the incredibly successful Galaxy S3, the ZTE Grand Memo joins the Grand S which arrived at CES earlier this year to head up ZTE’s 2013 product line.

What are the ZTE Grand Memo’s alternatives?

As its form factor suggests, the ZTE Grand Memo’s display size puts it in the line of fire alongside Huawei’s Ascend Mate and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, both of which break the 5-inch display barrier landing them all within the realm of ‘phablet’.

When will the ZTE Grand Memo launch?

ZTE say that the Grand Memo will start rolling out from anytime within Q2 this year. As such, we can’t vouch for its UK availability just yet, but it wouldn’t surprise us if ZTE market many of the same regions that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is available in.

How much will the ZTE Grand Memo cost?

Again pricing is still in the dark, but when you consider the company’s other handsets aim to undercut the market competition, expect it to hit market for between £450 – £500.
