Having made a name for themselves in the budget-phone category, ZTE are set to do much the same in the tablet world. Having seen the Android 4.0 quad-core ZTE T98 spotted at various trade shows in the past months, we weren’t sure the Chinese mobile corp were going to stay true to their budget roots given a pretty blinding spec sheet. That said, it looks like the first released tablet of 2012 is indeed something altogether more affordable, the ZTE V9A, Light Tab 2.
First seen at Mobila Asia Congress in November last year, it will be landing this February with Clove for £235. Shipping with a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS as well as a front facing camera and a rear 3.2-megapixel snapper, it’s definitely looking on the good side of budget. It will also come with 4GB of internal storage and be expandable via micro SD. The Light Tab 2’s screen comes in at 7-inches and with a resolution of 1024 x 600.
Our only major gripes come in response to the fact that there’s Gingerbread on board with no upgrade path outlined which is a bit of a let down.
That said, priced at £235 on launch, and with that number only going down over the coming months, the ZTE V9A Light Tab 2 could be just the ticket for anyone after a sub £250 slate. We look forward to getting one in to review next month and look forward to sharing our final thoughts once we do.
