Hello ZTE, aren’t you just full of surprises recently? Yesterday we saw the Windows Phone 7-running Tania popping up in the wild and now we’ve seen this, the T98, ZTE’s first Honeycomb tablet (3.2, natch).
It’s also apparently the first tablet to come with Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-core (or is it penta-core?) chip, also known as Kal-El. This would make the T98 a double first, not to mention a pretty awesome device, at least according to the specs.
According to the papped spec sheet, the ZTE T98 has got a 7-inch screen (like the ZTE Light) and it has a resolution of 1280 x 800 (WXGA). Ouch, cry our poor tired retinas.
It also includes 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and has a 5-megapixel main camera that can shoot 1080p video. There’s also a 2-megapixeler round the front for video call/auto portrait fun and it looks to be 11.5mm ‘ultra thin’ as well.
That’s pretty thin, but it’s not Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 thin…
The spec sheet, snapped at CES in Beijing, shows off 3G GSM network capabilities, so we can hope for a European/UK release. We’re reaching out to ZTE spokespople for more information on this; stay tuned for updates.
We originally heard that the yet-to-be-named Asus Eed Pad Transformer sequel was to be the first quad-core tablet. But it looks like ZTE could be the first to actually get quad-core tabs on the shelves.
Update: ZTE had nothing further to tell us “at this date” regarding the T98 and a UK release date.
