Meet the smart dumbbells that count your reps for you

Do you ever have trouble counting to 10? Well Bowflex has something just for you; dumbells that log your reps. No, seriously.

Bowflex’s new SelectTech 560 Dumbbells actually have an integrated accelerometer, which the company refers to as a ‘three-dimensional trainer’ (3DT) system, that counts your reps, tracks the amount of weighs you’ve lifted and how fast you’ve completed the reps.

More usefully, perhaps, is the fact it’ll also issue audible cues to let you know it’s time to rest, or begin pumping again – like a personal trainer would. When it’s finished logging everything, it’ll wirelessly transfer your workout data to the Bowflex companion app, where you can see your workout progress, count calories and set goals.

Like all Bowflex’s SelectTech dumbbells, the 560 has a weight adjustment system, which allows you to choose how heavy the dumbell is on a whim – so you needn’t buy dozens of separate dumbbells across a particular weight range – it can cover everything from light to heavy in a single package.

The SelectTech 560 Dumbbells are set to cost $499 (£340), with the extra weight options costing an additional $249 (£170).
