New Vauxhall Corsa comes with a sportier look, new engine and new interior.
Vauxhall has announced details of its fourth-generation Corsa hatchback. The new Corsa will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October before launching at the end of 2014. A price is yet to be revealed.
The new Corsa is virtually identical to its predecessor in terms of dimensions, but has a sportier look, redesigned interior and a brand new chassis. Vauxhall is keen to point out there are no ‘carry-over’ components from the current model.
Handling should be improved thanks to a 5mm lower centre of gravity, re-tuned rear suspension and a stiffer front sub-frame, which includes new knuckle joints. There’s also speed-sensitive electric power steering including a ‘City’ mode for low-speed manoeuvres.
The new chassis has also paved the way for a number of safety systems, including Hill Start Assist, Automatic Park Assist for steering the car into a parking spot, Side Blindspot Alert, High Beam Assist, Lane Departure Warning, rear-view camera and a tyre pressure monitor system.
Vauxhall has introduced a brand new 1.0-litre three-cylinder Ecotec Direct Injection Turbo petrol available in 90PS (88bhp) or 115PS (113bhp) outputs, both of which develop 170Nm (125lb/ft) of torque from 1,800rpm and have the option of Start/Stop. No word on emissions or fuel economy.
There’s also a new version of the 1.4-litre turbo that generates 100PS (98bhp) and 200Nm (147lb/ft) of torque as well as a revised naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre. Meanwhile the 1.3CDTi diesel of the range now meets Euro 6 emissions standards.
All engines will be mated to two six-speed gearboxes (one manual, one automatic) that are said to shift better and improve overall efficiency.
Vauxhall has added its IntelliLink system seen in the Adam and Adam Rocks. That includes a 7-inch touchscreen display and access to apps such as TuneIn radio. Voice command is available when hooked up via Bluetooth to an Android or iOS smartphone and there is a charging area for your mobile known as FlexDock.
