2016 BMW M6 Competition Package offers 600 horses of insanity

Those who wanted their BMW M6 to be more mental than usual had the choice of the Competition Package, which has now been revised to add even more power and torque.

The new Competition Package gives the BMW M6’s 4.4-litre V8 a mighty 600hp and 516lb/ft (700Nm) of torque, which is good enough for 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and 0-124mph in 11.8 seconds ─ 0.6 seconds faster than the old package. The old package increased power from 560hp to 575hp.

Electronic limiting holds the M6 back at 155mph unless you opt for the M Driver’s package, in which case you can charge up to 189mph ─ if you can find a spare runway or a long stretch on the Autobahn. CO2 emissions come in at 231g/km for the M6 Coupe and M6 Gran Coupe and 239g/km for the heavier convertible.

BMW has also firmed up the springs, dampers and anti-roll bars for better handling, while the Active M Differential works with its own control unit to further improve traction. Changes have also been made to the Dynamic Mode of Dynamic Stability Control to make it feel more sporty.

External changes include 20-inch M double-spoke, bi-colour light-alloy wheels and black chrome twin tailpipes.

The BMW M6 Coupe, M6 Gran Coupe and M6 Convertible will all have access to the new Competition Package from July 2015. Stay tuned for a word on a price.
