2017 Jaguar XE offers all-wheel drive and more infotainment goodness

Jaguar has announced the new XE will be getting all-wheel drive, an improved infotainment system and other technology upgrades.

All-wheel drive will be offered with the 178bhp 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel. The system can transfer torque to the front wheels when needed, which is said to help retain its ‘rear-wheel drive character’ but improve overall traction.

Jaguar says the all-wheel drive system used in the XF and the forthcoming F-Pace SUV makes the XE ‘a true all-weather sports saloon’.

In addition, there’s the option of Adaptive Surface Response (AdSR), which changes the mapping of the powertrain and Dynamic Stability Control depending on the conditions.

The cockpit benefits from a fancier infotainment system with a larger 10.2-inch display known as InControl Touch Pro, yet another technology borrowed from its pricier and larger XF sibling. A 60GB solid state drive provides oodles of media storage, while WiFi hotspot functionality allows up to eight devices to be connected to the internet at any time.

InControl Touch Pro also boasts navigation including a feature that allows it to get you to your destination, even if you lose GPS signal. It does this by analysing data from the vehicle’s sensors so it can predict the XE’s location and bearing.

On the subject of technology, Jaguar has made its InControl Remote App available on the Apple Watch, so there’s no need to pull out your phone if you want to interact with your XE.

In terms of safety, Jaguar has added the option of Lane Keep Assist and a Driver Condition Monitor – the latter designed to detect and warn the driver if they appear tired and therefore should pull in for a rest.

The new Jaguar XE will be offered in XE SE, XE Prestige, XE R-Sport, XE Portfolio and XE S trim levels with two diesels and three petrol engines, including the range-topping 335bhp 3.0-litre supercharged petrol.

The 2017 Jaguar XE can be ordered now at UK retailers, starting from £26,990. It will be built alongside the F-Pace at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant.
