2018 Jaguar XJR575 is 567bhp and 186mph of comfortable saloon cruising

Jaguar has updated the XJ luxury saloon and atop the range is the 567bhp XJR575, which promises a top speed of 186mph and 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds.

The 2018 Jaguar XJ has been announced. Though largely similar to its predecessor, the new model features full LED headlamps with J-blade daytime running lights, electric power steering and a slightly revised interior.

The addition of electric power steering has paved the way for parking assist, which helps slot you into a space, but it could affect the level of feedback from the steering.

The 2018 XJ makes use of the Advanced Adaptive Dynamics system, which adjusts the suspension characteristics to suit the terrain you are on and the way you are driving. Another extra is All-Surface Progress Control, which helps improve traction in bad weather conditions.

Stretching your legs out can be done in the XJ long-wheelbase version, which can be had with the same 296bhp 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel and the same 335bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol as before.

There is no stretch option in the case of the 5.0-litre V8-powered XJR575, which benefits from a small power increase to 567bhp. Torque is an impressive 700Nm (516lb/ft) and partly responsible for the blast from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds.

But you can have more leg room in the non-R version, which has the same 5.0-litre V8 engine but cranks out 503bhp and 461lb/ft of torque for a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds. An eight-speed ZF automatic takes care of the gears in all XJs.

Red brake calipers, 20-inch Farallon gloss-black annoy wheels, bespoke embossed tread plates and sports seats with diamond-quilting help the 575XJR stand out, as do the lower air intakes with gloss black surrounds and tailor-made side sills, front bumper and rear spoiler.

Jaguar has also seen fit to upgrade the Touch Pro infotainment system to a 10-inch display, added 4G WiFi for keeping the XJ connected and provided two new Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) paintjobs: Velocity Blue and Satin Corris Grey.

Though the XJR575 is extremely fast, the recently announced XE SV Project 8 is the fastest production Jaguar ever and by a sizable margin.

The UK price of the XJR575 starts from £93,710 and can be ordered now from your nearest Jaguar retailer. You can watch a video of it reaching 186mph below these very words. The standard MY18 XJ starts from £59,995.
