Like your cars fast, made of carbon fibre and roofless? Keep reading — Aston Martin has just revealed the Volante version of the Vanquish, a stunning convertible that also happens to be well endowed in the performance department.

Thanks to the ‘AM11’ 6.0-litre V12 borrowed from its coupe brother, the Vanquish Volante can hit 0 to 62mph in an estimated 4.1 seconds before hurtling up to a top speed of 183mph. Torque and horsepower figures come in at 565bhp at 6,750rpm while peak torque of 620Nm arrives at 5,500rpm.

The Vanquish is now available in rag-top form.

The Vanquish Volante comes with a lightweight, triple-layer fabric roof that can fold in 14 seconds, so there’s no need to panic if the heavens open and rain threatens to turn the car into a bath on wheels.

Every panel on the Volante is made of carbon fibre, sitting on top of an aluminium structure that uses aerospace bonding. As a result, Aston Martin claims the Vanquish Volante is 14 per cent torsionally stiffer than its predecessor. Combine that with new springs and damper settings, a 51:49 weight distribution and a ‘performance-honed’ 6-speed automatic transmission and the result should be pant-wettingly fun.

Space is always going to be a bit of an issue in convertibles, but somehow the new Volante has a 50 per cent larger boot, bringing the total space to 279 litres whether the roof is up or down – enough for some golf clubs and shopping, then.

The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante has a number of clever driving aid systems designed to keep you from picking bits of bonnet out of your face. The Adaptive Damping System allows you to swap between a number of driving modes, including Normal for days you want to chill, Sport when feeling more adventurous and Track for an all-out assault on the tarmac.

You also get Dynamic Stability Control, Positive Torque Control and the same front brakes as the One-77.
Prices start at £199,995 in the UK. Deliveries will begin arriving on our shores in late 2013.
