Audi A3 Cabriolet price and specs

A new Audi A3 Cabriolet will soon join the A3 Sportback, Saloon and performance-focussed S3. Interested? Good, because Audi has revealed the price and full specs of the convertible A3 ahead of its April 2014 UK launch date.

Audi’s new Cabriolet has a ‘hard-wearing fabric roof’ that can open and close in less than 18 seconds at speeds up to 31mph, so you won’t have to pull over if the heavens open. The presence of the roof reduces boot space from 380 litres in the hatchback to 275 litres.T

The new A3 Cabriolet is somewhat bigger than its predecessor, however it weighs 1,365kg ─ 50kg less. Audi says this is mainly down to the addition of an aluminium bonnet and weight saving in the interior and engine bay.

Audi A3 Cabriolet options

A choice of SE, Sport and S line trim levels will be yours for the taking. Opt for the Sport and S line and the fabric roof benefits a ‘sound-absorbent acoustic soft top’ with three layers of inner padding to further reduce road noise.

All models have a heated glass rear window and the option of black, grey or brown for the outside of the roof and black or silver for the inside lining.

Standard equipment on the entry-level A3 Cabriolet SE model includes a black hood, 16-inch alloys, MMI radio with a folding display, DAB digital radio, connectivity for an iPod, SD card slot for adding navigation and automatic headlights and windscreen wipers.

The pricier Sport and S line models add sports suspension to the mix, which lowers the ride height by 15mm. Or you can drop 25mm lower with the S line’s free sports suspension option. If you prefer comfort there’s also the option to downgrade to the SE’s more forgiving standard suspension.

The Sport model includes sport seats, Audi drive so you can choose the car’s responsiveness from a selection of five presets, dual-zone climate control and a larger, much more detailed infotainment display.

Audi A3 Cabriolet engines

A choice of three engines will be available at launch, a 1.4TFSI with cylinder on demand fuel-saving technology, the pokier 1.8TFSI and the 2.0-litre TDI diesel. A 1.6 TDI and a more powerful 2.0 TDI will be available to order from February 2014, with the former expected to be the most frugal.

A 300PS S3 Cabriolet is also on the horizon for the lairier motorist.

With the standard 6-speed manual fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions are pegged at 56.5mpg and 114g/km for the 1.4 TFSI, 48.7mpg and 133g/km for the 1.8 TFSI and 67.3 and 110g/km for the diesel.
