Bentley Flying Spur W12 S: Meet the 200mph-plus four-door

Bentley is expanding the range with a brand new model known as the Flying Spur W12 S, which boasts a more performance-focussed drive.

Power, torque and responsiveness are the key improvements, with the 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 engine offering 635PS (up from 625PS) and 605lb/ft (820Nm) of torque ─ all of the latter available from 2,000rpm. Power from the all-wheel drive system is split 40:60 rear biased.

0-62mph takes 4.5 seconds (0-60mph in 4.2 seconds) and the top speed is 202mph, making it the first four-door Bentley to break the 200mph barrier and probably not the last.

In addition to more power, the Flying Spur W12 S has been given a suspension tune for improved traction and handling, while optional carbon ceramic brakes (with either black or red painted calipers) provide even better stopping power.

The Bentley Flying Spur W12 S has a few aesthetic tweaks to separate itself from the standard Flying Spur, including a Beluga gloss radiator grille and light surrounds, rear diffuser, W12 S badge on the D-pillar and optional carbon fibre veneer.

Buyers can choose between 21-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels in a new gloss black finish or an optional 21-inch Sports five-spoke. As for the interior, Bentley has included a unique black-spin finish to the fascia and waistrails (carbon fibre is optional), three-spoke Sport Plus steering wheel and knurled gearshift paddles and W12 S on the headrest and treadplates at the front and rear.

There is also a unique colour split unique to the car created using ‘a single-tone interior with accents in one of 17 hide colours’ with contrast stitching on the diamond quilting used for the seats, on the steering wheel and throughout the interior.

Deliveries of the Bentley Flying Spur W12 S will begin at the end of 2016, Bentley said, but declined to comment on a price.

“The Flying Spur W12 S is the ultimate luxury performance sedan, Bentley Motors chairman and chief executive Wolfgang Durheimer said. “It combines sharper dynamics and an increase in power from our renowned W12 engine with a more assertive exterior and interior design for customers looking for a Flying Spur with extra attitude.”

The Bentley Flying Spur W12 S joins the Flying Spur V8 S that was publically unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show back in March.
