Feast your eyes on the Bugatti Veyron ‘Meo Costantini’, the third edition in a six-part run of special edition cars built to celebrate the people who played a big role in the manufacturer’s lengthy history.
Meo Costantini raced Bugattis in the 1920s and was responsible for driving the legendary Type 35 to victory twice in the Targa Florio race, held in the mountains of Siciliy. He then went on to manage the race team after several grand prix victories.
Costantini was also a close friend of Ettore Bugatti, the founder of Bugatti, no doubt helping him secure his inclusion in the ‘Les Légendes de Bugatti’ series of commemorative Veyrons.
Normally we would complain at a special edition that’s mechanically similar to its ‘bog-standard’ sibling. However, the Meo Costantini Veyron is based on the 253mph, 1,200bhp, quad-turbo Vitesse roadster and uses its 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine so all is forgiven.
Bugatti has at least tweaked the interior and exterior. It comes in the signature French Racing Blue and the aluminium parts of the body have been polished and left exposed to make them super shiny. A map of the Targa Florio route has also been added below the rear wing and between the seats.
In addition, racing scenes have been etched into the door cards and the signature of Costantini embroidered on the headrests and etched into the fuel cap. A bespoke leather interior comprised of cognac and dark, moody blue leather with light blue stitching rounds off the unique changes.
The first car in the series paid tribute to long-serving test driver and 24-hour Le Mans winner Jean-Pierre Wilmille and the second was dedicated to Jean Bugatti, Ettore Bugatti’s eldest son and the man responsible for the beautiful Type 57SC.
Ettore’s brother Rembrandt Bugatti is pegged as the next in line for the limited edition Veyron treatment.
The Bugatti Veyron Meo Costantini edition will set you back €2.08 million (about £1.8 million) before tax. Only three are being built so you’d better raid the piggy bank and get in quick. Or just browse the drool-worthy images below and dream like us.
