Caterham Superlight R600 is a supercharged track weapon

Caterham has introduced a new flagship model to its track-ready Superlight range. The new Caterham Superlight R600 will utilise supercharging, a sequential gearbox and slick tyres, making it the most powerful, most belligerent race-ready Caterham Seven in the company’s history.

The R600 is the first Seven to feature a supercharger.

The Caterham Superlight R600 uses the same 2-litre Ford Duratec engine as the R300, however in this case it’s been fitted with a bloody great supercharger, which is a first for the company. The result is 275bhp and 200lb-ft of torque, that’s 12bhp and 23lb-ft more than the non-supercharged Superlight R500.

it goes without saying that this will be the fastest production Seven ever. Caterham is yet to make any 0-60mph or top speed claims, but expect sub three-seconds to 60mph and somewhere north of 150mph. It should corner like a hummingbird, too, thanks to a Titan limited-slip differential and Avon radial slicks (optional wets are available if the weather calls for it).

A new Caterham Superlight R600 will set you back £44,995. However if you own an R300, Caterham is only too happy to bolt a supercharger to your existing engine to bring it up to R600 spec. The exact upgrade price should be confirmed in a matter of weeks.

Simon Lambert, Caterham’s Chief Motorsport and Technical Officer, said: “Caterham racing just got even more interesting. As the fastest Seven we’ve ever built, this will provide our existing R300 racers with a real step up and a new and exciting challenge, even for experienced drivers. The R600 represents an increase in aggressiveness, although the linear power delivery of the supercharged engine makes it superbly driveable, much like the R300.”
