Citroen shows how you do a concept with Divine DS

Citroen has given us a potential glimpse at the DS4’s successor in the form of the Divine DS concept on display at the 2014 Paris Motor Show ─ and, boy, does it have some ‘va-va-voom’.

The four-door Divine DS actually drops the Citroen name altogether, something already going on in Asian markets. So the concept represents a shift for the DS brand to stand on its own two feet.

It features a 1.6-litre THP turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine that outputs a stonking 270bhp (same as in the RCZ R), so it should really shift. Laser headlights (said to be 50 per cent brighter than conventional LED alternatives), reversing camera, 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a holographic display showcase a raft of technologies.

While the technology is impressive, it takes a backseat to the somewhat mental interior styling. The dashboard twists into the central transmission tunnel, while an elegant steering wheel sits in front of the aforementioned holographic display that gives a 3D readout of navigation instructions and whatnot. That and various textured surfaces give it a futuristic look.

Swarovski crystals are used to bling the place up, while input from ‘several prestigious fashion names’ helps with make it fashionable. The embroidery, for instance, is the work of Lesage.

The exterior is just as loud. A large air intake in the front bumper, sharp ridges on the bonnet, 20-inch alloys and sleek headlights give it a menacing look, while the strong swooping lines down the side of the car and textured rear lights make it extremely hard to miss.

“Divine DS is an expression of our expertise. This concept car is the very essence of what DS is and what it will be. A perfect alliance between sophistication and technology. Unveiled just a few weeks after the birth of the brand, DIVINE DS perfectly expresses the unique personality of DS,” DS brand CEO Yves Bonnefont commented.

Scroll on down for all the pictures and hope that whatever replaces the DS4 will be as eye-catching as the Divine DS.
